It is breadboard and PCB friendly after your tweak the leads.
I use this item regulate the power for an IC programmer and it works well.
The T-92 package does not have a heat sink mount so I bent it over to put the flat side in contact with the PCB and soldered a wire over the plastic case to hold it firmly in place. The PCB acts as a make shift heatsink. When used with a 9V DC supply under a 25mA load I can barely feel any heat on the L78L05 at all.
Check the pin-outs for the L78L05 as they are 'backwards' when compared to the L7805.
I would buy this item again and I would recommend it to a friend.
